Lot of things about this video I liked. The locale camera work the authenticity sheer purity of the folks. No set up, so natural, hard to believe. I just wish this treasure should live long. This is something that gave Rajasthan its unique identity.

It is just 100% pure and so entertaining, it takes me back right in the middle of where there is pure nature and joy live.

Entrepreneurs and RANA?

Well you must be thinking what prompted RANA to organize entrepreneurship events? I guess it might help to let you in on our thinking. After all, this is Bay area. Everyone has thought of starting or at least worked at a start up, right? Well, may be not. May be the RANA Enterpreneur Forum will encourage you to think.

We at RANA think that there is a strong cultural connection between Rajasthan and entrepreneurship. There are a number of Rajasthanis in the Bay area that have been successful in the venture world and have promoted countless others. At RANA, we want to highlight the belief systems — religious mores, cultural values, moral and ethical principles — that underlie the Rajasthani psyche and enable them to succeed in the venture world. Aspiring and already successful entrepreneurs would be served well to refresh their thinking about business and ethics in todays tumultuous times.

RANA is inviting aspiring entrepreneurs from the entire spectrum of society, Indian-Americans or otherwise, to its new monthly Entrepreneur Forum. RANA’s Entrepreneur Forum features successful RANA members who connect their roots to the success in their entrepreneurial ventures. Speakers engage in a two-way conversation with the audience in an informal setting. The forum meets every 4th Thursday of the month starting in February.

Speaker: Dinesh Shrimali (Shri Builders)

Venue and time

Thursday February 22, 2007 at 7:00 pm

1313 N. Milpitas Blvd
Milpitas, CA 95035

Entrepreneur profile

Dinesh Shrimali is owner of Shri Builders, a real estate development & construction company. Shri Builders has been a dream in the making for 30 years. Dinesh’s journey into the world of building began with his first job as a Construction Engineer at L&T in Bombay. Soon thereafter, he came to the United States and completed his Masters in Mechanical and Structural Engineering from IIT Chicago. This was followed by the launch of his US career in power plant construction.

After completing his MBA, Dinesh took a detour toward Silicon Valley and worked for Hewlett Packard. At HP, he was able to give his mind free reign to innovate. This and his attention to detail resulted in the creation of fiber optic lab facilities where he was awarded several patents. These patents in laser and LED packaging are widely used in the industry today and have increased the lifespan of lasers and LEDs from hundreds of hours to thousands of hours.

Dinesh’s true passion has always been building. He returned to this passion when he designed and built his own home fifteen years ago. Dinesh found this home-building experience so fulfilling and satisfying that he decided to turn this passion into a business - and so Shri Builders was born. While Shri Builders specializes in building high-end homes, Dinesh’s primary interest has always been the intersection of design and lifestyle.

Tentative Day Trip to Bear Valley Resort
Saturday, 24 Feb 2007

Bear Valley Resort

Thirdly, we are hoping to organize a trip to Bear Valley this year. It will only be a day trip to keep down the costs of participation in this event. Since we are still unsure about the level of interest in the community, we would like to hear your feedback on whether we should organize this event. You can post your comments directly on the RANA blog using your log on. If you have not received a log on already, please register online with RANA or contact us for help.

Holi Celebration
Saturday, 24 March 2007
Baylands Park, Sunnyvale

Finally, Holi is just around the corner and marks the beginning of Spring. Although Holi festival is going to be celebrated in India on March 3rd, we have organized the Holi celebration keeping in mind the local climate conditions and to prevent scheduling conflicts with other Bay Area organizations. As usual, we will have a blast with colors, water, and lots of great foods and dizzying drinks.

If you have not already renewed your annual membership for 2007, this would be a great time to do so as it will provide valuable discounts to all the RANA events. We would also like to invite volunteers to help out with the organization and publicity of these events to the broader RANA community which includes even those who are not paying RANA patrons. Please feel free to share the RANA web site with those friends who are interested in Rajasthani culture and also suggest registering with www.rana.org to them.

How to use the RANA calendar?

    Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

    Overview

RANA organizes its own events and promotes various partner events. Our Web site makes it easy for the RANA community to promote events and provides a built-in calendar. Every article posted as an event automatically shows up in this calendar. The RANA calendar also provides links to non-event articles. Upcoming events are shown beneath the calendar on the RANA home page as well as on the blog home page.

    Adding new events
In order to add a new event to the RANA calendar, only one additional step needs to be performed. This step is performed in the Write/Edit post form. Make sure that you have selected one of the event sub-categories for the post. Then, scroll to the bottom of the form where you will notice the ‘Event Editor’ panel. Click on the ‘+’ sign and select the date and time for the event. You can also set the event to be an ‘all-day’ event, for occasions such as festivals and multi-day events.

    Subscribing to RANA calendar

Not only is the RANA calendar available from its Web page, it is also available as a public calendar subscription. If you are using an iCal aware calendaring application such as Google Calendar or iCal (Mac), then it is a breeze to add the RANA calendar directly in your personal calendaring tool. Just copy the link location from the little feed icon in the top-center portion of the RANA calendar. Then, add this URI to your iCal aware calendaring application as a public calendar. Boom! RANA’s calendar will now be visible to you in your personal calendaring tool.

    Questions

Do not forget to leave your questions, curiosities, and suggestions as comments to this post. We are constantly striving to improve your experience of the RANA Web site!

    Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

RANA is extremely pleased to announce the launch of its remodeled Web site http://www.rana.org. RANA has maintained a Web presence for well over a decade now. The newly remodeled Web site is aimed at better serving the dynamic and highly connected Rajasthani community in the Bay Area and elsewhere.

http://www.rana.org provides organizational information, event announcements, as well as community discussions. Its democratic nature supports the community’s need to self-publish information of interest to any and every interested community member. RANA is the first Indian community in the Bay Area to provide such a dynamic online forum to its members.

RANA’s events are announced via invitations posted on this Web site as well as emailed to all its registered users. Anyone can register as a user with RANA’s Web site for free. Note: Subscribing to the Web site does not provide any membership status in RANA. Posted articles and comments are also available as RSS feeds so that you can find updates directly in your news reader or email client, without navigating to the RANA Web site.

Users are encouraged to contribute by posting comments and articles including news, announcements, recipes, reviews, and more. All articles are monitored by site editors, who are themselves appointed by the community. If the community approves you as an author, you can even post articles without requiring moderation.

In case you experience any difficulties or see errors, please do not hesitate to write to us. Please help us make this forum a voice of the entire RANA community. We look forward to receiving you on the new RANA Web site.
