Cloth storytelling is an ancient tradition, and Mohan Bhopa and Patasi Bhopi from Churu district, Rajasthan, are some of the best exponents of this tradition today. They have performed in Portugal, France, and the U. S. besides being featured in the annual Jaipur International Heritage Festival. RANA, with support from India Community Center and the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, is extremely pleased to host these artists for its members and the community.

Currently in San Francisco on an invitation of the Asian Art Museum, these artists will recite the age-old story of how camels came to Rajasthan and Pabuji, who brought the camels, accompanied by folk music on a ravanhatto against a backdrop of a richly painted Par depicting various events in the life of Pabuji. Pabuji is highly revered as a deity by many in Rajasthan, and Pabuji ki Par takes the simple message of Pabuji to every common man.

Donations are accepted and all donations go to the storytellers just like in Rajasthan. This event will be free to all RANA members. Non-members are encouraged to join RANA to start enjoying RANA’s wide programming and non-programming benefits.
