A team of 5 students from BITS Pilani is participating in Robogames 2008. This student team has created India’s first humanoid robot called ACYUT. RANA is hosting a reception for these young students from Rajasthan to felicitate them on their achievement and provide them an opportunity to interact with their peers here.
ACYUT in Sanskrit literally translates into “the one which never falls”. This humanoid, our first for any competition, is a product of the efforts of undergraduate students at the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS) at BITS-Pilani, India.
Still in the early stage of development, ACYUT, has the capability to walk, punch, fight, climb stairs and hold its own in a melee. Made of Duralumin, the exoskeleton houses 2 Lithium-Polymer batteries which power 26 servo motors and 2 controllers (a Motorolla DSP 56F807 and an Atmega168). These controllers work in tandem to control all motors simultaneously and produce sequences and moves. The gait and stability of the robot have been improved by the use of a Tilt Sensor which ensures that the robot doesn’t topple (at least most of the times ).
The reception and demonstration is organized at the Fremont Hindu Temple. Light refreshments will be served. We request you to please bring your teenager children for this unique and special event. You and your teenager will not be disappointed.
The students will display their robot and its prowess on the soccer field and the dance floor! Please join us for a fun and informational evening to learn about this achievement. In an interactive session, the students will answer questions about science, computers, and robots as well as educational experience in India.
